Changes in the Higher Education System

Education has become a crucial part of the socio-economic developmental process. Universities play an important role in delivering quality education to the people of the nation. Every individual in the country can receive basic and primary education if the universities discharge their duties adequately.

Internationally education after school can be divided into two types- Secondary education and the further education is known as Tertiary education. In India, there are 10years of primary education up to class 10, higher secondary education up to class 12 and then there is higher education. India’s higher education system is the third largest in the world after U.S.A. and China. In fact the Indira Gandhi National Open University is the largest University in the world with approximately 3.5 million students studying under this university.

We as a country have always made education one of our top priorities and we still lag behind in this sector. Rote learning is what dwells in our education system. People study just to score good marks in exams. The main focus should be on learning and developing a skill. The students these days learn well and keep cramming knowledge throughout the semester and after the end of the semester exams, they end up relieving themselves of this knowledge burden. They end up forgetting whatever they learned by the end of the semester. This is a serious issue we need to focus on.

Moving on, another issue with our educational news is with the schools, colleges and universities. The competition in the education sector has increased so much that most of the institutions are forced to try to be the best in order to survive in the market. They have become purely money oriented institutes. The internal system still lags what it takes to be an institute that imparts quality education.

Educationinsta is making all the efforts it can in order to bring a positive change in our education system. It is promoting transparency which is much required to enhance the education system.

Changes that are taking place:

In the recent years, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has brought forward various means or device by which education can be accessed beyond geographical and political boundaries. The various ways are namely- teleconferencing, radio sessions, video conferencing, audio conferencing, etc. The electronic education has seen an excellent rise. But the majority of the population is still deprived of the basic education. The prime focus should be to provide basic education to every individual.

Changes required in the Education system:

We should emphasize more on skill based education. Our education system has been producing rote learners who excel in exams and end up settling for a well-paid job. We should instead produce scholars who are keen in learning skills for a lifetime and not just for exams.

We should encourage research work, creativity, innovation and teach the people to think out of the box. We live in a country where deviance is punished or mocked at. Our education system tend to encourage memorizing capabilities rather than originality. Our tests and exams mark us on our memorizing skills rather than learning skills.

We need leaders and entrepreneurs as teachers rather than a salaried person trying to hold on to his job. Entrepreneurs can teach the students to think innovatively while they prepare them for the corporate world.

More government funds need to be allocated in the education sector. Due to the huge population of India, it becomes a serious issue to provide education with such little funding. Technological and infrastructural development also need to be done if we want to provide basic education to the enormous population of the nation.
