General appearance
Black stone, bright, crystalline, cold and moderately heavy. Soft to the touch, and often of a less intense black tone than the common obsidians, because it is covered by bands and concentric rings that resemble those of the gaseous planets, in soft shades of gray, green, brown, red or violet, although some also include blue and turquoise tones. Some cases also have a certain grayish or silvery iridescence. It is usually sold as an egg or sphere so that the effect of the bands is more impressive.
