Why there is the competition between the indian nad chinese handicrafts ?

Like the several other sectors there is an immense competition, similar interest,  between India and China in case of giftware and the handicrafts sector. The major motive of writing this post is to compare the state of India and china in terms of trade of handicrafts. Let’s dive in -

  • In 2015 the india and China had the mutual trade of 600 crores in handicrafts specially in case of metal based handicrafts and hand block printed items.

  • China also seems ready to buy home decor and furniture oriented products because there for these products there is high labour cost of preparing these products.

  • In the embroidery market Indian Handicrafts are  more leading in USA and UK but in other areas of world china is leading.

  • In stone and wooden handicrafts china leads everywhere.

  • China is much far trailing down to India in terms of exporting the hand woven carpets especially to USA.

  • India has the much broad share in USA and Germany.

  • In previous time USA and european countries were the major destinations for the handicraft products but the chinese market is opening the new opportunities for the Indian Handicrafts.

  • In wooden handicrafts India has the major competitors as Malaysia, Korea, Vietnam as well with China.

To face immense competition from these countries India has the need of upgrading the market opportunities in other markets and also has the need of upgradation of technology. Because many countries have already been so fast and upgraded and also have seen the enormous growth in their handicraft market.

Like - Sri lanka gained the technology from Japan, China and malaysia in the case of bamboo and wooden handicrafts. Thailand got the technology from Taiwan and South Korea in case of teak and timber industry and had seen the immense growth. Even china got the technology from Taiwan and Korea in case of toys and dolls.
